Recognition of vehicle license plates is difficult, but it is a highly needed system. This is very useful for tollhouse automation, automatic identification of signal violators, and detection of traffic rule violators. Here, we propose a raspberry pie-based license plate recognition system that automatically recognizes license plates using image processing. This system uses an LCD display circuit connected to the camera and Raspberry Pi. The system constantly processes the image from the receiving camera to detect all lanes of the license plate. When capturing the license plate in front of the camera, it processes the camera input and extracts the license plate portion from the image. The extracted image is processed using OCR and the license plate is extracted from it. Then the extracted numbers will be shown on the LCD display. Therefore, we proposed a fully functional vehicle license plate recognition system using Raspberry Pi.
