This project was built around the Raspberry Pi processor board. It controls peripherals such as cameras, speakers, and LCDs that act as an interface between the system and the user. In this project, we will implement optical character recognition or OCR to recognize characters and read them from the speaker by the system. As shown in the project setup, the camera is mounted on a stand and the paper is placed between the areas marked with square brackets to capture the entire view of the paper into the system. Even when the camera takes a snapshot of the paper, attention is paid to good lighting conditions. The dissertation should be in English (preferably Times New Roman) and have an appropriate font size (24 or above is preferred according to MS Word). When all of these conditions are met, the system will take a picture, process it, recognize what is written on the paper, and notify the speaker that the content on the paper has been successfully processed. The system then pronounces the content converted to text format from the processing of the paper image. Thus, a Raspberry Pi-based reader for the visually impaired helps visually impaired people read paper without the help of human leaders or the help of a tactile writing system.
